Kauai

Kauai is the oldest and northernmost of all the main islands of Hawaii and lies 105 miles from Oahu.

Of its 552 square miles, only 3% of it is used for commercial and residential purposes, the rest is split between agriculture and conservation.

The island has two peaks over 5000 feet. The high annual rainfall has eroded deep valleys in the central mountains, carving out canyons with many scenic waterfalls.

It is also known as the "Garden Isle" because of its lush tropical scenery. Its beautiful and pristine landscape is a wonder to behold. Kauai's splendor has been the setting for Hollywood productions such as South Pacific, Jurassic Park, and Fantasy Island.

Kauai has 53 miles of pristine white beaches. When walking along the beach you may encounter a Hawaiian Monk Seal basking in the sun. Hawaiian Monk Seals often haul up on beaches to sleep, sun, or give birth. These critically endangered marine mammals are protected under federal laws. You must stay at least 100 feet from them, and they could be dangerous if agitated.

Although so much of this island is under conservation, you can enjoy horseback riding, biking, fishing, camping, golf, windsurfing, scuba diving, and more.
